What forms do I need?
All applications for postgraduate and distance learning study
must be made on the relevant Aberystwyth University (AU) application form. You must submit two copies of
your application form together with two copies of all supporting documentation.

For Research Programmes, you will also need to provide
two references with your
application.
For Taught Masters Programmes, you will need
only provide one reference with your
application.
N.B. Applicants for our MBA Programme must submit two
references. One of the references must be a professional reference to comment on your
relevant work experience (i.e. a work based reference). Applicants for
the MBA Programme must also submit an up-to-date C.V. N.B. Applicants for our Masters in Archive Administration, Records & Information Management
and Information Governance and Assurance must submit two
references. One of the references must be a professional reference to comment on your
relevant work experience (i.e. a work based reference). . N.B. Applicants for our Masters courses
with the Department of International Politics must submit two
references. Copies of standard reference forms and envelopes
will be despatched together with a copy of our prospectus if you
request application forms by phone, fax or email.

Members of AU Staff may use the relevant
versions of the above application forms but should also submit their Fee
Exemption Form after it has been authorised by their Head of Department.
A supplementary application form is available
for applications for PhD by Published Works.
Generally, the minimum requirement for a
taught Masters course is a lower second class honours degree. However, some
departments may require upper second class honours degrees (e.g. Department of
International Politics) or relevant work experience (e.g. for MBA programme).
Further information is available on the list of
postgraduate courses. Please check with the relevant department. Non-graduates with at least 24 months of relevant full-time work experience are welcome to
apply for any Masters course. Their applications will be judged on an
individual basis. They may not however apply for a place on a PGCE course or for
a PhD programme.

There is no closing date for applications for postgraduate study
although there may be deadlines if you wish to be considered for
funding. In most subject areas it is advisable to apply before the end of
February if you wish to be considered for a
funded place and before the end of July if you are able to fund
yourself. The only exception is the MScEcon in Archive Administration
where a closing date of 15 December exists for the receipt of
applications.
UK and other EU applicants for research places in science
subjects should, in the first instance, contact the relevant academic
department regarding the availablity of project studentships and
deadlines for application.
Those who will be accompanied by their children during their studies at
Aberystwyth are advised to apply before 15th January. This should
provide enough time to complete the admissions process and make
appropriate arrangements for accommodation
and childcare.
I
Applications are considered by departments and you will be informed
within six weeks of receipt of your complete application whether:
a) You are to be offered a place
If you are to be offered a place you will be sent an offer letter
setting out the conditions you will need to meet before you can
register, the cost of your course and the date on which it starts.
You will need to reply to this offer within six weeks and meet
the conditions set before registration. For those starting in September, you will also be sent information
about Registration and sessions for new postgraduates in August. Please note
however that you will not be able to register until you have fulfilled all of
the conditions that have been specified in the formal offer letter. Only then
can we issue the formal acceptance letter.
Non-EEA students will require student visas in order to study
full-time programmes. This can only be done if you have a firm letter of
acceptance. The onus is on the student to secure their own visas. Non-EEA PhD
and MPhil students in certain science subject will also require an
ATAS certificate.
Registration takes place at the beginning of the session and all
full time students are required to attend. Further details about
exactly when and where you should register will be sent to you
when you have met all the conditions in your offer letter and
we know you will be definitely joining us. The "Essential Information for New
Postgraduate Students" handbook will be distributed at the plenary meeting for
new postgraduates at the start of the registration week.
Your
Degree/Qualification at Aberystwyth University
Following structural changes to the University of Wales, and
in common with all other universities in Wales, the University is now able to
award degrees in its own name. We are pleased to inform you that, entrants to
the University from 2009-2010 will, when they graduate, be awarded degrees from
Aberystwyth University.
The degree awarding powers recognises the high academic
standards and independence of the University and demonstrates our ambition and
our commitment to continue to provide a high quality experience for our
students.
All students will be required as a condition of enrolment to
abide by and to submit to the procedures of the University's Rules, Regulations
and Information for Students. These are amended annually and circulated to all
students. A copy of the current Rules, Regulations and Information for Students
is available, on request, from the Admissions & Recruitment Office (01970 622021).
The University will use all reasonable endeavours to deliver
courses in accordance with descriptions set out in the Prospectus. However, the
University does not provide education to UK students on a commercial basis. It
is also very largely dependent upon charitable and public funds, which the
University has to manage in a way that is efficient and cost effective, in the
context of the provision of a diverse range of courses to a large number of
students. The University therefore reserves the right to make variations to the
contents or methods of delivery of courses, to discontinue courses and to merge
or combine courses, if such action is reasonably considered to be necessary by
the University in the context of its wider purpose. If the University
discontinues any course, it will use its reasonable endeavours to provide a
suitable alternative course.
The University cannot accept responsibility, and expressly
excludes liability , for damage to students' property, transfer of computer
viruses to students' equipment, liability for breach of contract including
cancellation of courses, lectures, laboratory, sessions, workshops, field trips
and similar activities.
Any student who has outstanding fees shall not be awarded any
degrees, diploma, certificate or qualification from the University until the
debt is cleared. Such students shall be prevented from re-enrolling at the
Institution and from using any of the University's facilities.
