Irish and Scottish Gaelic

The Department of Welsh at Aberystwyth is unique amongst its sister departments in the University of Wales in that it provides instruction in Irish and Scottish Gaelic. A number of modules are available either as part of single honours in Celtic Studies or Welsh and the Celtic Languages (i.e. combined with modules in Welsh and, optionally, Breton) or as part of joint honours in Irish, or as part of Welsh Single Honours or Welsh Joint Honours. All are available through both English and Welsh, except for Scottish Gaelic (but we intend offering this through both languages shortly). Both these four-year degree schemes are taught within the Department of Welsh. In both the emphasis is equally on language and literature, from the earliest period to the present day. All languages can be learned from scratch.

The Irish modules taught through the medium of English are listed below. For the corresponding modules taught through the medium of Welsh, and for Scottish Gaelic, see Gwyddeleg a Gaeleg yr Alban.
