No.1 in Wales for Computer Science.The Department of Computer Science has excelled in its field with 70% of our research activity rated as world leading or internationally excellent, and the remaining 30% rated as internationally recognised. Thus, the Department is the only one in Wales that has been awarded a quality profile with 100% research being of international quality. This profile means that the Department is the best in Wales for Computer Science and one of the UK's premier university departments in this field. 
Scientists have created an ideal colleague - a robot that performs hundreds of repetitive experiments.The robot, called Adam, is the first machine to have independently "discovered new scientific knowledge". It has already identified the role of several genes in yeast cells, and is able to plan further experiments to test its own hypotheses. Summer Research Camp on Autonomous Intelligent RobotsJune 23rd – June 30th 2009 Aimed at PhD students and young researchers in the fields of computer science, robotics, autonomous systems, machine vision, biologically inspired robotics, machine learning and engineering, but is open to interested students in biology, psychology and neuroscience etc. with a reasonable background and skills in robotics and programming.  Computer Science Professor Wins IEEE CIS Outstanding Paper Award
Professor Qiang Shen, of the Department of Computer Science, has been awarded the Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding Paper Award in the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems (TFS) by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This is the most prestigious international publication award in the field of Computational Intelligence. [LINK]
