A NEW VENTURE: INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL FILM MAKING

Digital Film maker‘Introduction to film making’ is a new venture between the Lifelong Learning department and Creative Mwldan in Cardigan.

This new initiative and pilot scheme is aimed at students with little or no experience of film making, but who have bags of enthusiasm and would like to make their own films. Mwldan are supplying the technical equipment such as mini DV cameras and an editing facility on Apple’s Final Cut Pro, and the £250 four day intensive course will be taught in Cardigan by Hedley England who has twenty-five years experience in film and TV as a director, editor and writer and who also taught in Cuba for a short time.

Students should expect to have a very busy time, with a hands on approach to grasp the principles of film making through group discussion, a chosen three to five minute film project, the shooting of the film and the editing afterwards. Hedley intends to teach this course by sharing the fun but also the creative processes of film making. He will also take the technical gobbledegook out of the process, simplifying cameras and editing techniques, and the group will learn how to work collaboratively on each of their projects, so that they will have the skills to make their own films later if they wish. Possible projects could include working with actors or musicians, or concentrating on a documentary style – the choice is up to the group.
