ELIZABETHAN MADRIGAL SINGERS
CHAMBER CHOIR
| |
The Elizabethan Madrigal Singers (or 'Mads', as they like to be known) is one of Aberystwyth's main student-run choirs. One of the University's oldest societies, it will soon be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The choir was first formed by a group of friends who wanted to sing madrigals together; but over the years the horizons have broadened a good deal and, as well as madrigals, the choir also has in its repertoire music as diverse as Gorecki and Brahms, Mendelssohn and Messiaen. Religious and secular music, folk songs and spirituals: Mads will tackle virtually anything unaccompanied.
As well as performing in and around Aberystwyth, the choir goes on tour twice a year. The Easter tour usually takes it to Scotland, followed by a tour abroad in the summer. Recent tours have included Poland and Germany.
Auditions are held for new members and the choir meets regularly on Monday and Thursday evenings. |
