Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

present information in a clear and coherent manner;

develop an advanced argument based on the fruits of independent research and demonstrate that they have acquired advanced skills as critical readers of culture;

document an argument using appropriate scholarly apparatus;

demonstrate an in-depth understanding of an issue introduced in the taught modules.

Brief description

Student's will write 15-20,000 words (in English, French, German, Spanish or Welsh) on a topic of their choice, building on the modules studied for the MA in Modern European Culture. Students will have to submit a dissertation proposal (about 1,000 words) by the end of the first semester of study (second year for part-time students). On the basis of the proposals, students will be assigned a supervisor whose interests will be matched as closely as possible to those of the candidate. All MA students will be informed of the name of their supervisor early in semester 2, in order to allow ample time for research.
