Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

* identify their individual learing strengths and areas for improvement

* evaluate and identify strategies to enable them to become more effective learners

* apply chosen strategy to particular learning situations

*demonstrate an undertanding of the link between study skills and the concept of managing and presenting information

Brief description

The module aims to enable students to make the transition to learning at undergraduate lebel by introducing a range of generic study skills related specifically to information Studies. Although assessment will centre of the skills themselves, sessions will be based on examples from information studies. Some sessions may include 'micro sessions ' on relevant concepts and issues for students new to the field as a means of intergrating and 'grounding' the practical study skills.

Content

Workshops - 2 hours each with theoretical and practical elements in each. Some sessions will be two parts - one hour each. Use of Blackboard where appropriate.
