On completion of this module, students should be able to:
* Apply some of the subject-specific and generic skills introduced in their study scheme
* Demonstrate the importance of a range of professional duties
* Explain the practical implications of providing various services
* Evaluate their personal strengths and weaknesses as professional practitioners
* Show an awareness of the importance of adopting a professional approach to tasks
* Present an assessment of the effectiveness of the host organization to fulfil its goals
The student is placed in a working situation that will broaden or extend their professional experience and/or exploit a special interest. The placement provides a 'raboratory? where ideas and concepts introduced in the classroom can be observed in a working environment. The student will also experience a wide range of practical activities and will have the opportunity to use skills introduced in their course and to lay the foundation of new skills. Students will also have the opportunity to observe the value and influence of professional attitudes. For many it will be their first introduction to the practicing profession and will therefore have an important role in motivating them and developing their understanding of the responsibility of the information professional.
