Learning Outcomes

The module should enable students to:

understand the implications of recent changes in the management of schools and their curricula and other factors influencing the information needs of the school community;
appreciate the range of characteristics of information resources available to support teaching and learning
understand the role which the school library resource centre can play in support of the school curriculum
appreciate the importance of effective management policies and practices to enable the school library resource centre to play a key role within the school

Aims

The aims of this module are:

to describe the role that libraries can play in support of teaching and learning in the school context;
to identify the range of services and resources needed to enable a school library resource centre to perform this role effectively;
to discuss some of the major issues in the management of school library resource centres
