On completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of animal production systems in agricultural enterprises
2. Identify the main constraints on productivity
3. Compare efficiency of different systems of production
4. Identify the scope for the application of the results of research in animal production
To give an introduction to farm animal production systems and their design in the context of UK and world agriculture. Particular reference will be made to constraints on production - economic, social, environmental and animal health and welfare. The scope for the application of scientific knowledge and research will be highlighted as a foundation for subsequent modules.
