Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students will have gained the experience of:
1. Researching and summarising specific topics of interest to them;
2. Presenting their summaries in the form of a seminar;
3. Submitting a written summary on their review of the subject;
4. Posing and answering questions following the seminar.
Aims
The module will provide students with the opportunity to research and present two seminars. Seminar 1 will be on a specified subject, the second will be a subject of the students' own choice.
Content
The module comprises 11 x 3 hr sessions each devoted to three individual seminars. Students are briefed before the end of Semester 1, a seminar timetable drawn up and first topics allocated. Students are expected to choose their second topic within three weeks of the beginning of Semester 2 and have it approved by the group facilitator. Appropriate feedback is provided after the first seminar has been delivered. Each seminar should last for approximately 20 minutes, after which general discussion takes place. All students are expected to attend and to contribute fully to the discussion of each topic.
THE NATURE OF THIS MODULE PRECLUDES HONOURS RESITS DURING THE AUGUST SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION PERIOD. RE-ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE PLACE WHEN THE MODULE IS NEXT DELIVERED, IE SEMESTER 2 OF THE FOLLOWING ACADEMIC YEAR
