Semester Assessment | The precise content will be defined by the student under the guidance of the tutor. In general terms, students will be working towards the production of one of the following: - a collection of poems of approximately 3,000 words in length OR - one piece of prose fiction totalling approximately 6,000 words OR - two shorter pieces of prose fiction, to a total of approximately 6,000 words OR - a combination of poetry and prose fiction, to a total or approximately 6,000 words In addition the project must include a critical commentary on the students own poetic and/or fiction-writing practice with relevant bibliographical details ( a further 2,000 words). | 100% |

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Address the techniques and styles of their chosen genre(s)
2. Present their work in ways which reveal an awareness of professional standards for the submission of scripts
3. Contextualise and evaluate their writing
The Writing Project is central to the Creative Writing and English Degree, and provides the opportunity to experience sustained, long-term personal engagement with a substantial writing task. It gives students the opportunity to reflect on their own writing skills and to engage in discussion with similarly focused students.
