Learning Outcomes
After completing this module:
1. You will be able to read and appreciate one of the most important of Middle Welsh texts in the original language.
2. You will be able to discuss the texts in their medieval context.
3. You will be able to discuss these important texts in their literary context, e.e. from the point of narrative techniques, characterisation, themes and structure.
4. You will be aware of various aspects of the history of scholarship of these texts.
Brief description
A study of the Four Branches, examining aspects such as structure, style, narrative technique, date and authorship. The literary qualities of the tales will be considered, with occasional reference to other Welsh medieval tales, together with their cultural and social background.
