Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Critically analyse their own skills, strengths, and weaknesses;

Develop an action plan to enhance their employability-related skills and knowledge;

Secure and complete 100 hours of work experience;

Demonstrate knowledge of employing organizations, how they are managed, and their role within the organization, together with an awareness of statutory regulations, such as Health and Safety;

Demonstrate an ability to apply and evaluate skills and knowledge in a work situation.

Aims

Academic rationale of the proposal: There is increasing competition for high-quality job and training opportunities for students at all levels of study. Masters level students require clear evidence of their ability to develop and utilize transferable skills alongside their academic ability and subject-specific knowledge. This module develops skills such as self-reflection, action planning and reviewing which will increase students’ autonomy as they progress through their degree and will be required in workplace settings post-graduation. The aims of this module are therefore to increase postgraduate students’ awareness of the need for critical analysis and self-reflection and to provide opportunities to develop such skills.
