Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Produce and analyse creative and / or critical modes of writing, and, where appropriate, a synthesis of those modes.
Demonstrate an understanding of a range of theories and debates about literature, the relationship between texts, and between texts and their contexts.
Demonstrate the ability to conceive of, plan and critically contextualise an original piece of research or creative writing.
Demonstrate an ability to present critical and/ or creative work to a professional academic standard.
Aims
This restructured common core module (with elective elements) consolidates existing research training for Literary Studies and Creative Writing and enhances creative-critical hybridization in PGT provision.

Brief description
This 10 week module introduces all MA students to the research skills and methods they will need to plan and complete a significant piece of original research or creative writing. In format it alternates between 5 plenary sessions (for all PGT students across the department), and 5 breakout sessions which further develop each of the key research methods covered in plenary with specific attention to the demands of literary studies or creative writing. Students following Q392 MA in Literary Studies (and pathways) attend all 5 Literary Studies breakout sessions. Students following Q394 MA in Creative Writing attend all 5 Creative Writing breakout sessions. Students following QXXX MA in Literature and Creative Writing choose five breakout sessions from Creative Writing and Literary Studies. Students on this scheme must attend in week 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 but may choose either Creative or Literary sessions.
