Curate an engaging exhibition, researched and selected from the School of Art collection, to showcase a clear narrative or theme
Critically evaluate the role of the curator, the function of exhibition and the gallery space and apply this when critiquing local and national art exhibitions.
Produce professional-standard interpretative texts for museum display
Use industry-standard conservation and installation techniques to ensure the safe handling and effective display of museum objects
Devise marketing strategies to promote exhibitions across various media.
Collaborate effectively as a team to complete exhibition tasks within a given timeframe.

The module offers undergraduates a rare opportunity to stage an art exhibition in a public gallery, selecting works from a Fine and Decorative art collection of national renown. Bridging a gap between academic study and public engagement, this hands-on experience benefits participants by enhancing their career profile and professional prospects.

This module draws on the expertise of the teaching and curatorial staff of the School of Art and the wealth of the School of Art collection to provide an opportunity to conduct practical, professional research to curate an exhibition in a public gallery.

Cynnwys

This module enables involvement in all aspects of the creative process of curating, beginning with the planning stage to include; exhibition design, selecting and preparing works for display, researching and writing exhibition texts (object labels, wall texts, catalogue entries), through to marketing the exhibition across traditional press and digital platforms.

Teaching comprises lectures on the theory of curating exhibitions and sessions to include planning workshops, writing seminars, group discussions, as well as practical activities such as preparing and hanging works for exhibitions.
