Media Exploration

Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

1. Display a basic competence and technical fluency in a range of media appropriate to Illustration, Interdisciplinary Practice, Photography and Printmaking.
2. Understand and apply techniques in order to creatively observe, investigate and respond to landscape in its broadest sense.
3. Produce a portfolio of work demonstrating organisation and presentation skills.
4. Demonstrate the ability to critically interpret and reflect on their own work and that of others.
5. Analyse and contextualise their work in relation to discipline specific terms and movements.
6. Understand the importance of ethical and safe practice.

Through workshops, demonstrations, lectures and assignments, this module offers an introduction to a range of media including Illustration, Photography, Interdisciplinary Practice and Printmaking.

Over ten weeks, students examine the landscape through these disciplines, learning techniques, processes, methods and materials.

Workshops delivered from staff across disciplines equip students with fundamental technical skills and an understanding of the conceptual frameworks relevant to each medium. Through the study of original artworks in the School of Art Museum and Galleries, alongside external exhibition visits, students learn to identify and analyse a wide range of artists’ techniques and approaches. Lectures foster a deeper understanding of how the landscape is interpreted through various media, informed by relevant critical and theoretical debates.

Using ‘landscape’ as the unifying theme complements the core art history module AH11520: Looking into Landscape: Reading, Researching, Responding which also runs during Semester 1. This connection between history, theory and practice provides a basis for project work, thus supporting a cohesive student learning experience.

To introduce students to a range of artistic media and approaches through the theme of landscape, developing both technical skills and conceptual understanding.

This module comprises weekly workshops or lectures on techniques, methods, processes and critical debates common to the disciplines of Illustration, Photography, Interdisciplinary Practice and Printmaking. The syllabus broadly connects with themes explored in the core art history module AH11520: Looking into Landscape: Reading, Researching, Responding to provide a themed approach to creative practice.
