  3. Perform calculations and analyse data relevant to the content of the module

Disgrifiad cryno

All biological organisms are composed of cells, and these cells are in turn composed of biological molecules. These building blocks that make up all biological organisms will be introduced and explored to provide foundation year students with skills, confidence and knowledge for further study in the biosciences.

To prepare students for further study in the Life Sciences.

Cynnwys

The module will include consideration of the similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, before comparing the structure of plant, animal and fungal cells. Chemical concepts will be taught to enable nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids to be introduced. The structure, function and synthesis of these biomolecules will be explored. Through the coursework, students will be enabled to apply their learning to organisms of most interest to them.
