Media and Society in Wales

Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

1. Develop and consolidate a systematic and coherent body of knowledge of the history of media in Wales and of contemporary debates about the media in Wales.
2. Understand, compare and critically evaluate theories about the historical development of the media in Wales and the nature of the contemporary media.
3. Apply knowledge and understanding to a critical assessment of contemporary problems relating to the media in Wales.

The subject matter of this module will be the emergence of the press and broadcasting in Wales since the nineteenth century and the role of these media in Welsh society. It will also examine the range of issues which confront those who seek to understand the nature and development of the media in contemporary Wales. It draws on history and critical social theory to do this.

The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to study the history of, and critical issues in, the media in Wales. Through this module students will gain systematic body of knowledge about the evolution of the media and be able to understand and critically review the main theories and debates about the development and contemporary nature of the media in Wales.
