Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

Understand the importance of historiography and historical theory to the study of the past.
Identify and analyse the theories and approaches that have been used within the academic writing they encounter in their studies.
Demonstrate an understanding of major trends in the study of history over time, and the influences of specific historians and schools of history.
Demonstrate an ability to understand, critically examine, and compare the approaches historians have used in their work.

Disgrifiad cryno

Making History is a module which focuses on historiography and historical theory, that is, how historians study and write about the past. This module will teach you how historians have approached the study and writing of history since the nineteenth century. You will learn about some of the key theories which have informed the questions which historians ask, the evidence that they investigate, and the manner in which they express their ideas.

Cynnwys

Nine lectures will address a range of historical schools and approaches and will include such themes as the Annales school, Marxism, postmodernism, the Cultural turn, gender studies, and postcolonial theory, among others.

These lectures will be accompanied by 5 workshops which will develop students' skills in analysing and critiquing secondary literature.

Cyfathrebu	Seminars will include a range of activities aimed at developing students’ ability to express their ideas in a clear and well-structured manner.
Datblygu personol a chynllunio gyrfa	Students will be asked to reflect upon how scholars have used historical theories and approaches within their research. A range of transferable skills will be developed throughout this module. Students’ ability to solve problems, analyse and evaluate evidence, and communicate effectively will be developed.
Datrys Problemau	Students will be asked to consider how the theories and approaches they have learnt in this module can provide new perspectives on the past.
Gwaith Tim	Seminars will involve group work. This will not be assessed.
Gwella dysgu a pherfformiad ei hun	Students’ will be encouraged to think flexibly about the ideas they encounter and consider to what extent they believe particular historical approaches to be valid.
Sgiliau pwnc penodol	Students’ understanding of how historians use historical theory within their research will be developed.
Sgiliau ymchwil	Students will be asked to critically evaluate how scholars have applied the theories and approaches encountered in this module in practice. They will also be required to evaluate the relative usefulness of contrasting theories and approaches.
Technoleg Gwybodaeth	Students’ ability to select appropriate online resources for academic study will be developed throughout this module and assessed through their essays.
