Wedi cwblhau'r modiwl dylai'r myfyrwyr fedru:

Display detailed knowledge of the main grammatical and syntactical points of Manx.
Employ advanced research skills in the area of Manx language and culture.
Read, with the help of a dictionary, various original prose pieces in Manx from the eighteenth century to the present.
Demonstrate thorough familiarity with the process through which Manx was revived.
Critically analyse the main challenges facing the revival of Manx in the present political and economic environment.

Disgrifiad cryno

This module offers students an introduction to the main features of the Manx language and its associated culture, including the history of the language and discussion of the famous revival of the language that has occurred in recent decades.

To give students an understanding of the Manx language, its relevance to the wider field of Celtic studies and a knowledge of the Manx revival and the lessons it offers revitalisation efforts worldwide.

Cynnwys

This module will consist of ten two-hour sessions, each divided equally between studying the Manx language itself and discussing relevant scholarship:

1 hour will be devoted to the pronunciation, grammar and structure of Manx, with particular emphasis on how it differs from the other Gaelic languages.

1 hour will be devoted to the discussing readings about the history, culture and sociolinguistic situation of Manx, with particular emphasis on the famous language revival that has taken place on the Isle of Man in recent decades.

Bydd deg dosbarth dwy awr yn y modiwl, a bydd y dosbarthiadau yn cael eu rhannu hanner a hanner:

1 awr yn dysgu'r iaith ei hun – gramadeg, ynganiad, ac ati, gyda phwyslais penodol ar sut mae Manaweg yn debyg neu’n wahanol i’r ieithoedd Gaeleg eraill.

1 awr yn trafod hanes, diwylliant a sefyllfa cyfoes y Fanaweg, ac yn benodol yr adfywiad enwog sydd wedi digwydd yn yr ynys.

Cydlynu ag erail	Students will work together in group discussions, in putting together short conversations making use of their language skills.
Cyfathrebu proffesiynol	Discuss grammatical issues in seminar; be able to explain grammatical errors in the assignments and exercises, and present and discuss items of literature.
Datrys Problemau Creadigol	Students will respond to the challenge of dealing with grammatical rues, and individual grammatical exercises.
Gallu digidol	Students will make use of a number of online resources including dictionaries, and linguistic corpora, not only in translating material but also in assessing items of literature in terms of register and dialect.
Meddwl beirniadol a dadansoddol	Students will apply critical and analytical thinking to their reading and analysis of scholarship on Manx.
Myfyrdod	Students will be encouraged to reflect on their performance and progress in language exercises and improve going forward.
