This course sets out to explore some of these developments and to propose further avenues of investigation, including some consideration of the relationship of rural dwellers with the church in the period. In attempting to illustrate the value of bringing a combination of source-types to bear on an historical problem, it will employ a range of sources local and national, literary, legal, governmental, and archaeological
