SMB students reach the semi-finals of the University Business Challenge

19 March 2014

Sponsored by IBM and other companies, the UK leg of this worldwide challenge had over 300 teams competing this year and one of the Aberystwyth teams got through to the semi-finals.

Held at Procter and Gamble in Newcastle our team of Adrian Doerr, Stacey Borel, Sophie Simic, Kinnery Patel and Jessica Adams attacked the tasks with gusto and real teamwork.  Although they were not successful at getting through to the final they learned a lot about the real problems that large businesses face and overcame them well.

Stacey Borel commented “The UBC challenge represented the scenarios that real boards of directors are faced with on a day-to-day basis. Its range of challenges provided us with the opportunity to coordinate, listen and make unanimous decisions under a tough and pressured environment.

Participation in this challenge gave each of us an insight into a range of diverse business related obstacles, and taught us the importance of successful and well-managed teamwork to meet our objectives. In addition, we thoroughly enjoyed the range of presentations delivered by Procter and Gamble, which gave us an interactive overview of the organisation as a whole. Finally, we have learnt to fully appreciate the importance of acknowledging both the success and failures we may encounter in the real business environment, and how one can learn from such situations.”

Well done to all of them.
