Novel Research Technique Supports Tourism Planning
06 May 2014
SMB Professor of Tourism Brian Garrod's paper, written with Nika Balomenou of the University of Hertfordshire, uses 'volunteer-employed photography' (VEP) to understand tourists' and residents' experiences of living in a busy tourism destination: the tiny city of St David's in Wales.
Published in the highly ranked journal, Tourism Management the paper illustrates how visual images can deepen tourism planners' insights into how a destination is used and what features of the destination are valued by different user groups.
As such, the paper, accessed here, demonstrates the considerable potential of VEP as a tool of participatory tourism planning.
