The School of Management and Business (SMB) scored very well in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF), a periodic assessment of the quality of research at UK universities.
Headline results show that in respect of the quality of research, 95% of the work submitted has been judged 'internationally recognised' by the assessors.
SMB performed particularly well in the Impact category, which assessed the value of research to users such as businesses and government. On this score, the School had 75% judged 'Internationally Excellent' and 25% of which was judged as 'World Leading'.
SMB research covers a wide range of social science disciplines and the impact case studies dealt with issues such as economics of ecosystems and biodiversity, rural development in Wales and the economics of housing in the UK.
SMB Director, Professor Steven McGuire said: 'This very good research output was the result of an excellent effort by academic staff, well supported by our administrative colleagues. As increasing emphasis in future research funding will be impact, and the School and University are well placed to gain from this.'
Head of School Designate, Professor Mike Christie stated that 'SMB staff have worked very hard to improve the quality of their research in this REF assessment. I very much look forward to building on these strengths to develop a school that produces world leading research that has impact'.
Aberystwyth University improved its overall score, particularly in respect of impact, and remains among the top research universities in the UK.
