"During my 13-month Industrial Year at GE Healthcare, I was an Information Security and Risk Management Intern. My main responsibilities included introducing a new IT Security Standard across GE Healthcare (approx. 55,000 employees), undertaking various Risk Assessments on IT Systems and implementing a new Risk-tracking process within the IT Security team.

Aberystwyth University taught 62 people to code an Android app on 13 June as part of a Guinness world record attempt for the most people learning to code.
Aberystwyth University was one of 30 venues hosting the attempt to break the record for the largest number of people simultaneously learning to code an Android app. Over 1000 people took part in the record attempt across the UK.

This new course has been designed for students who require some additional study before starting Computer Science at level 1. That may be because they have been out of education for a while, or because they did not do as well in previous study as was expected.

Dr Laurence Tyler in Computer Science has developed novel image processing software to help identify the location of the Beagle 2 Mars Lander which was lost on Christmas Day 2003. The UK-led Beagle 2 Mars Lander, which hitched a ride on the ESA Mars Express mission, has been found partially deployed on the surface of Mars.

The Times Higher Education (THE) has ranked the Aberystwyth Computer Science department as 11th in the UK and 1st in Wales. The ranking is based on a new analysis of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 data.

Dave Price, IMPaCS Head of Infrastructure and Teaching Fellow in the CS department, spent three days at the Royal Institution working with a "robotic orchestra" which performed on BBC Four on New Year's Eve. The electronic ensemble powered by computers and led by a robot conductor was also joined by four musicians.
