Reunion Weekend 2019

International Politics celebrates its centenary in association with the Old Students’ Association Reunion Weekend

21 June - 23 June 2019

As we mark the centenary of International Politics at Aberystwyth University, we are inviting former students, members of staff and friends of the Department to join our celebrations. The alumni reunion weekend will be the perfect opportunity to catch-up with old friends, classmates, and members of staff, relive memories of college life, find out about the great work going on in the Department today, and discuss its direction for the next hundred years.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Aber.

Further Information

In November 1918, David Davies, together with his sisters Gwendoline and Margaret, came up with an exceptional idea of how to honour the lives of more than one hundred students of the University College of Wales at Aberystwyth who fell in the Great War. Their endowment of the Woodrow Wilson Chair marked not only the beginning of our Department, but also of the entire discipline of International Politics. The founders outlined the core mission of the Department as ‘the need for considering all the peoples of the world as one.’ While they stressed that ‘research is universal and depends upon zeal and opportunity, and not altogether upon the place’, all of us who have spent time in the Department know how unique and important the place it has been and continues to be.

Today, the Department’s mission continues both thanks to the zeal of the founders and the generations of staff and students who have come through the Department over the past century. The alumni reunion weekend will allow us to celebrate the mission and make sure that we remain at the cutting edge of global challenges.

The weekend celebrations will begin on Friday evening 21 June 2019; continue with a full programme on Saturday culminating in a celebration dinner, and the chance to unwind on Sunday morning. We also look forward to having current students and staff from the Department involved.

We are delighted to be hosting the weekend in partnership with the Old Students’ Association (OSA) who will hold their annual reunion on the same weekend. 2019 also marks the centenary of plant breeding at Aberystwyth University - and if you left in 1969, why not make this 50th anniversary since graduating a reason to celebrate with us too?
