10 August 2016

‌Two undergraduate degree courses at Aberystwyth University’s Department of Geography and Earth Sciences have been given a 100% overall satisfaction rating in the 2016 National Student Survey.‌

The Department’s Environmental Earth Sciences and Physical Geography programmes were both given maximum scores by students who took part in the annual survey.

Overall satisfaction for Environmental Earth Sciences as a subject was also higher than any other higher education institute in the UK.

Ahead of its centenary in 2017, the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences returned an outstanding rating of 95% for overall satisfaction compared to a UK figure of 86%.

The Department’s achievements are part of a much greater success story across Aberystwyth University which is rated one of the top ten higher education institutions in the UK and the best in Wales for overall student satisfaction, according to the annual survey.

The results show that overall satisfaction amongst students at Aberystwyth University stands at 92% - that’s six percentage points higher than the UK figure of 86%.

The NSS collects data from 155 of the UK’s Higher Education Institutions and is recognised as an influential source of information for prospective students when considering their options.

As well as scores of 100% for two of the Department’s undergraduate degree courses, a further two programmes have also scored well above the UK average of 86% for overall satisfaction.

The National Student Survey is carried out annually by IPSOS Mori on behalf of all the UK’s higher education funding councils and other bodies, interviewing around 312,000 final year students in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Students are asked to rate institutions on the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.
