ESRC WISERD/Civil Society PhD Studentship at Aberystwyth – +3 or 1+3 Award

Fully-funded PhD project starting this October on "Civil Society and the Governance of the Future” supervised by Prof Rhys Jones and Prof Mark Whitehead.

Deadline for applications is 31 August 2019.

There are several funding opportunities for students wishing to pursue a PhD, including Aberystwyth's Doctoral Career Development Scholarship (DCDS) competition, and Departmental scholarships.

DGES offers scholarships for UK/EU applicants with excellent academic track records wishing to study for a full-time PhD in an area that relates to the interests of any one of Department’s research groups:

  • Glaciology;
  • Quaternary Environmental Change;
  • River Basin Dynamics & Hydrology;
  • Cultural and Historical Geography;
  • New Political Geography.

Applications follow the same procedure as DCDS awards above. Awards can either be fees only or fees and a maintenance stipend.

DGES also has links with the AHRC South, West and Wales Partnership programme which awarded 52 doctoral studentships for entry in September 2015. We are inviting applications and expressions of interest from students whose research interests include:

  • Cultural Geography;
  • Historical Geography;
  • Geographies of Heritage and Memory;
  • Geographies of Mobility;
  • Landscape and Cultural Geography;
  • Environmental History / Histories of Extreme Weather Events;
  • Cultural and Historical Geographies of Wales, Scotland and Ireland;
  • Geography and Performance;
  • Geography and Creative Writing.
