Final-year undergraduates studying Education at Aberystwyth University have rated the subject second in the whole of the UK for overall student satisfaction.

In the National Student Survey (NSS) published Wednesday 9 August, students gave an overall satisfaction rating of 98% to the subject of Education compared to the average UK figure of 84%.

One of the School of Education’s flagship degree schemes - Childhood Studies - also hit an impressive 98% for student satisfaction.

When asked about the teaching on their course, 93% of students told the annual poll that they were satisfied overall.

Dr Andrew James Davies, Acting Head of the School of Education at Aberystwyth University, said: “We are delighted with these results - to come second in the UK for overall student satisfaction in Education with 98% is just fantastic. As a School, we've built a close and constructive relationship with our students, and worked hard to provide high-quality, transformative learning experiences. We're thrilled that our students have told us that they recognise this and value it so highly.'

The School of Education’s excellent results are part of a wider success story at Aberystwyth University, which is rated the best in Wales and one of the top five higher education institutions in the UK for overall student satisfaction according to the 2017 NSS.

The survey shows that overall satisfaction amongst students across Aberystwyth University stands at 91% - seven percentage points higher than the UK average of 84%.

The NSS figures follow closely on the heels of the latest employability figures for UK universities which showed that 100% of Education graduates were in work or further study six months after leaving Aberystwyth University in 2016.

The National Student Survey is carried out annually by IPSOS Mori on behalf of the UK’s higher education funding councils and interviews more than 300,000 final year students in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Students are asked to rate their university across a wide range of measures including quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and student voice.

Aberystwyth University’s rankings are based on the overall satisfaction question and use the list of higher education institutes from The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
