The Women's Equality Network (WEN) Wales is delighted to host an International Women's Day 2017 fringe event in partnership with Honno Welsh Women's Press. Honno is an independant co-operative press run by women and committed to bringing you the best in Welsh women's writing. Come along to this event and hear from Welsh women writers about their work and experiences of writing and publishing in Wales. Cheese and wine will be served.

The Women's Equality Network (WEN) Wales in partnership with Aberystwyth University will be hosting a conference to celebrate International Women's Day 2017.

Speakers & Workshops will include:

Dr Dawn Mannay, 'Gender, Class and Identity in Contemporary Wales'

Prof. Jackie Jones, Wales Assembly of Women, 'An International Bill of Rights for Women: The UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)'

'Creating an Equal Future': Panel Discussion with local women's rights activists.

2:30-4:30pm The Careers Service presents a talk by Helen Rhiannon who runs her own wedding dress design company ( She is an enterprise role model and will talk about how and why she started her business and answer questions. ALL F16, Visualisation Centre, Aberystwyth University Louise Sommerfield
4-6pm International Politics presents a roundtable discussion on: What does it mean to be a woman in contemporary international politics? At the event there will also be an exhibition of the Clothesline project (linked in with the Stitched Voices exhibition taking place in the Arts Centre this spring). International Women's Day Film & Discussion, 'Dry', RA Team, led by Meritiza Hengari, International Office/Anna Linghan, Feminist Society

To celebrate International Women's Day we will be showing 'Dry', an inspirational film based on a true story of a young girl growing up in Nigeria (filmed in location and in Aberystwyth). The film will be followed by a debate led by Meritiza Hengari (International Office) and Anna Linighan (Feminist Society), discussing issues around VVF/FGM, child marriages and women's rights.
