IAH International

The Institute of Arts and Humanities (IAH) at Aberystwyth University provides an exceptional and dynamic environment for international students. IAH is a very creative and innovative place, inspiring new generations of artists and thinkers through a transformative student experience. As an Institute, we are committed to interdisciplinary and first-rate teaching and research; and departments within IAH see their key goals as unlocking individual student potential and preparing them for the societal and global challenges of the future. We are proud to be part of one of the most vibrant and welcoming international communities in Wales.

Our departments regularly score highly on student satisfaction in national surveys (e.g. Welsh 100% and top 10 in the UK for English & Creative Writing - NSS 2017), and we have some of the best employability figures in Wales and in the UK (e.g. 100% in Art and Education – DHLE 2017). Our Modern Languages Department is deemed to be the best in the UK for studying French (NSS 2016), and it is ranked 11th in the latest Guardian League table for Modern Languages (2018). Our Theatre, Film and Television courses are ranked 94% on the W400 Drama and Theatre studies degree scheme; and our 125 year old School of Education follows closely with an impressive ranking of 2nd in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS, 2017). Our employability figures are above the national average, and the most recent 2017 DLHE report recorded that 95.4% of our graduates were in work or full time study 6 months after graduation; this is a record 1% higher than the sector average.

If you would like to improve your English language skills before or during your studies with us, you can choose from a number of interesting options. On top of their general English courses, our International English Centre offers amazing summer and foundation courses for international students (95% satisfaction across all courses in 2016). The Centre is accredited by the British Council and also offers teacher training and development courses.

We are proud of our international outlook and our continuing commitment to partners in the EU and globally. We work closely with our international and European partners to deliver excellent teaching and innovative research. Our commitment to interdisciplinary study and research provides a stimulating academic environment, which is enhanced by a number of attractive overseas and European research and study links. We have long-standing exchange agreements with several universities and partners in Europe and beyond (e.g. Heidelberg – Germany, Paris Sorbonne – France, Salzburg - Austria, Córdoba – Spain, Trinity Dublin – Ireland, Oslo – Norway, Anadolu – Turkey). We regularly welcome students and scholars from international partner institutions in Australia, Canada, China, the US, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and Azerbaijan.
