Personal Chair & EH Carr Chair Appointments

Many Congratulations to Berit & Milja

We are very pleased to announce two senior appointments following a competitive external appointment processes.

First, Professor Milja Kurki has been appointed to the E.H. Carr Chair in International Politics. Professor Kurki joined the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth in 2006. She has worked on varied aspects of international relations, including philosophy and methodology of causal analysis, democracy promotion and development policy and more recently the nexus of cosmology, alternative political imaginations and planetary challenges. Professor Kurki becomes the fourth holder of the Chair and the first woman since it was established in 1999.

Second, Dr Berit Bliesemann de Guevara has been appointed Professor in International Politics at the Department of International Politics, where she was a Reader and Director of the Centre for the International Politics of Knowledge. Professor Bliesemann de Guevara joined the Department in October 2012, after holding positions at universities in Bremen and Hamburg. Her current research focuses on violent conflict, peace processes, knowledge in international politics and arts-based research methods. She is Principal Investigator of several research projects including the GCRF|AHRC Network Plus" Creating Safer Space: Strengthening Civilian Protection Amidst Violent Conflict" and a Newton Fund project that explores the reintegration of former guerrilla fighters in Colombia.
