Special Issue of International Relations co-edited by three departmental staff

Facing Human Interconnections: thinking IR into the future

We are very pleased that the current issue of the journal International Relations is a Special Issue co-edited by three members of staff from the Department of International Politics: Dr Charalampos Efstathopoulos, Professor Milja Kurki and Dr Alistair Shepherd. The Special Issue, titled 'Facing Human Interconnections: thinking IR into the future', is the second special issue celebrating the centenary of the discipline of International Relations (the first Special Issue was published in March 2019).

The Special Issue features articles from a range of scholars from around the world, who provided excellent, thought-provoking contributions: Vicki Squire, Amy Niang, Audra Mitchell & Aadita Chaudhury, Mustapha Kamal Pasha, Madeline Carr & Feja Lesniewska, Richard Beardsworth, Oliver Kessler & Marc Lenglet, and Jairus Grove.

Charalampos, Milja and Alistair also co-wrote the introductory article setting out open-ended notion of human interconnection and how it allows for interesting new questions to be posed on the potential and limits of IR as it faces the future, and debates around how we see interconnections between issue areas and ‘-isms’, how IR constructs ‘humans’ or ‘non-humans’ in interconnections, and what is at stake in bringing to our attention unacknowledged interconnections.
