Welcome to Information Services talks and tours

During New Students Welcome Week, Information Services provide a schedule of welcome talks and tours for new students. Details of these can be found on Information Services (IS) activities for new students.

We appreciate that there are many other groups of students who start their courses at other times of the year, for example:

  • postgraduate students starting their courses before the academic year e.g. trainee teachers
  • distance learners
  • Erasmus students
  • international students learning English before they start their degree courses
  • visitors attending short courses e.g. to learn English or Welsh
  • lifelong learners

We can provide the same activities for these students by arrangement.  These sessions are designed to welcome new students and introduce our services so they can make the best use of them during their time here.

Sessions last up to 50 minutes, include a tour of the library and provide an introduction to:

  • AU email
  • Campus computers
  • Campus, Halls and wireless networks
  • Aber cards
  • Student record
  • Printing and photocopying
  • Filestore
  • Using the University's libraries
  • Finding information on your subject of study
  • Using e-resources on and off campus
  • Help and advice

If you would like us to provide a session for your students please email is@aber.ac.uk stating:

  • when your students begin their course
  • which course they are taking up
  • which activities you are interested in
  • a suggested date and time for a session - please give at least two weeks notice
