Profile

Gwyn has been employed with Aberystwyth University since April 2022, embarking on a new challenge in academia following over fourteen years as a registered adult health nurse.

After qualifying in 2008, Gwyn followed his passion for intensive care nursing, enjoying over 6 years working for Bronglais in the Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit.

Completing his MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice in 2014, Gwyn looked to expand his scope of challenge and looked to the offshore oil industry while also working for Bronglais Hospital bank system, gaining further surgical and medical ward experience.

After completing his Offshore Medic qualifications, Gwyn put his skillset to the test for British Petroleum over a number of trips on floatels and oil rigs in the North Sea.

Following a downturn in the oil industry, Gwyn returned to full time employment with the Theatre team at Bronglais for a year, before being successful in his application for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner post in Elderly Trauma.

Gaining prescribers rights after completing his PGCert in Non-Medical prescribing, Gwyn led on several health board initiatives for the National Hip Fracture Database. Championing care of the elderly Gwyn recently completed further study in assessing decision making capacity.

Following his lifelong learner goals, Gwyn is also looking forward to commencing the PGCTHE modules with Aberystwyth University in January 2023.
