Animalia: Animals in Ceramics

Course Details

Enrol Now

This course, Animalia, is not about making a pottery model of your pet! You will explore the history of constructed animals in ceramics and look at the work of contemporary ceramicists who work in clay and paper-clay to inspire. By the end of the course, you will produce two preparatory maquettes or miniature models and one finished piece of work.
You will have the opportunity to explore the potential of different materials, construction methods and surface finishes. Emphasis will be on the design so that your piece can be viewed ‘in the round’. Assessment will require you to keep a log of your working processes as a record and reference for the future, two maquettes and a final constructed piece. You will be encouraged to look at and learn from the work of other ceramic artists working in this exciting field and share what you have learned with your fellow artists in the class.
