This introductory course in ceramics will allow the student to produce a body of work in ceramic design creating an imaginative response using the theme of the landscape as inspiration. This will cover basic techniques associated with three dimensional work in clay such as slabbing, coiling and working in the round. Students will be encouraged to investigate historical and contemporary references and evaluate the limitations of working in clay. The course will be entirely practical and will incorporate design skills, observational drawing skills to source idea development as well as knowledge of different firing techniques.
