The viscoelastic properties of migrating cells

15 June 2015

The project "Novel Cell Migration Assay Based on Microtissue Technology and Tissue-Specific Matrices" has been awarded over one million Euros through the European Commision's Horizon2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange scheme. Researchers at Aberystwyth University, led by Prof. Gennady Mishuris, will join an Anglo-Irish team coordinated by University College Dublin to develop mathematical models of the viscoelastic properties of migrating cells. The main objective of the project is to develop a prototype novel cell migration assay, which will significantly improve the predictive power of cell-based assays, based on seeding cells precisely on pristine extracellular matrix tissue mimics with native-like cell-functionality and reproducible migration zones.
