Aims

To provide students with a foundation in critical theory which may serve as a common basis for the exploration of the film-related topics under discussion throughout the rest of the degree scheme.

Content

This module is designed as a continuation of Module The Theatre Text and will cover issues similar to those dealt with there, but this time with specific reference to the interpretation of film. The first two sessions will be devoted to the discussion of the general background of the subject, and to the task of defining appropriate methodologies. The last two sessions will concentrate on specific films, which raise issues similar to those discussed in reference to theatre texts.
