Brief description

The aim of this module is to provide a foundation in law as it relates to the environment for those students who have not studied law before. It assumes a basic understanding of environmental principles and helps the student to understand how these can be employed in a legal context to give effect to environmental objectives. The module covers the process of legislation; the role of the common law and the courts in environmental protection; and implementation and enforcement of environmental law. The emphasis throughout is on the relationship between science, law and policy development and the student is invited to consider the limitations and advantages of various measures designed to achieve environmental ends.
