Practice Rooms and other facilities

Located near the seafront in Old College, the University Music Centre provides facilities for students and the local community, and promotes a wide-ranging programme for performers and listeners.

The Centre has practice rooms available to students of all degree programmes, staff and others, and teaching spaces for those wishing to recieve instrumental or vocal lessons.  It has numerous pianos, a two-manual electronic organ, harp, harpsichord and chamber organ, as well as percussion and other instruments. The Old College is also home to the Music Library, which houses a large sheet-music collection with particularly strong holdings of chamber and orchestral music. In addition, music books can be found in the Hugh Owen Library - and, of course, the enormous resources of the National Library of Wales are close at hand.

Use of the Practice Rooms is only available to those who have purchased a Music Card.  The card can be bought via the University's Online Shop or in the Music Centre Office.

From Monday 23rd September, the Practice Rooms will be electronically locked. To gain access, you will need to purchase a new Music Card for the 2019-2020 academic year. These are available from the University online shop at or in peson at the Music Centre Office.  If you're a student or member of staff, your Abercard will be linked to the lock through your Aber log-in.  Please be aware that it can take at least 24 hours for this to happen.  You will also need to update your Aber Card after 24 hours.

You can do this on campus, e.g. the Hugh Owen Library or in town - either at the Computer Room at 10 Laura Place (opposite the Old College) or the small entrance door to the Old College on King Street (The Ladies Entrance) which has a swipe card lock on it. A blue light will activate your Abercard. A red light will follow indicating that your Abercard does not allow you access through this door. You will have to use the main entrance.
