Student Dignity and Respect

Aberystwyth University and Aberystwyth Students' Union are committed to providing a working and learning environment that enriches lives, and where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Neither the University or Students' Union will tolerate bullying or harassment or any type of behaviour contrary to dignity and respect perpetrated by its students. Students, staff and members of the public should not be treated unfavourably or be subjected to bullying or harassment because of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, sex or sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, religion or belief (or no religion or belief), maternity/pregnancy, gender identity or status, age, trade union membership, disability, offending background or any other protected characteristic.

How to report a concern

The University is aware that there may be a number of barriers to reporting incidents and you therefore have a choice of reporting methods.

Report a concern using the online form

Using the online form you can report a concern anonymously or as a third party or by identifying yourself. If you submit an anonymous report we will be unable to offer you individual advice or support and the information you provide will be used for statistical purposes only. Where you identify yourself your report will be submitted to staff in the Advice, Information and Money Service and will be used to put you in touch with a Student Adviser who will advise you about your options for taking the matter forward and discuss the type of support available to you. Personal or identifiable information will not be disclosed to others without your consent unless we believe there is a risk to your or to another individual’s safety and wellbeing. Please note that in submitting either an anonymous or third party report or by identifying yourself you are not initiating a formal complaint.

Report a concern in person to a member of staff

Such individuals may include for example, a personal tutor, residences staff or campus security or staff in Student Support and Careers Services. To ensure that any potential legal proceedings are not prejudiced, on receipt of a report staff should, with the student’s permission, direct the student to colleagues in the Advice, Information and Money Service (based in the Student Welcome Centre) for specialist advice and support. However, where the student does not wish to do this staff should contact the Advice, Information and Money Service for confidential advice on how to proceed.  There will be no requirement to name the student at this point.
