Griffith University is in eastern Australia in the state of Queensland. It has campuses in both the state capital of Brisbane which has over 2.1 million residents and the city of Gold Coast which has over 590,000 residents. Most students would be in the Gold Coast campus that is set amongst the native bushland. Gold Coast is famous for the Surfer’s Paradise Hotel and a year round humid subtropical climate. Students have a multitude of opportunities to take part in sports or they can make the most of the wide variety of entertainment and cultural activities.


Courses are offered in English. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their Department's Exchange Co-Ordinator. Preference will be given to International Politics students who put Griffith University as their top choice of institution, but students from other departments are also encouraged to apply. Students are advised to discuss the suitability of GU for their degree with their Departmental Exchange Co-Ordinator. There are a range of accommodation options available.  At the Gold Coast campus students can live on-campus at Griffith University Village or off-campus in one of the many surrounding suburbs of the Gold Coast. Students will have to apply early if they want university accommodation as places are limited.

Visa Information and Other Costs 

All international and exchange students must apply for a student visa (subclass 500). The cost of the visa may change year on year. 

A condition of the visa is that studetns will have appropriate Health Insurance. Griffith arranges program length OSHC for students who are arriving from overseas to study in Australia for the first time. If you have paid your OSHC fee with your tuition fees, you will automatically be insured with Allianz Global Assistance .

Getting There‌

The closest airport is Brisbane and flights times from London are 24 hours. Bus and train transfers are available from Brisbane airport. Airtrain is the train transfer provider and costs $14-$17 depending on how far in advance you book. They also offer a door to door service

The first semester starts in February and ends in June and the second semester starts in July and ends in November. Students are expected to arrive a few days in advance of term dates. Students who wish to go for the full year would be advised to go in the second semester, followed by the first, to match the AU semester dates

How to Apply

All students wishing to go on an exchange to Griffith must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department. After being nominated, students must complete the online application form. All applications must be made electronically.
