Visa Information and Other Costs

All international and exchange students must apply for a student visa (subclass 500). The cost of the visa may change year on year.

A condition of the visa is that students will have appropriate Health Insurance. Newcastle arranges program length OSHC for students who are arriving from overseas to study in Australia for the first time. If you have paid your OSHC fee with your tuition fees, you will automatically be insured with Allianz Global Assistance .

It is also important to consider the cost of living when choosing where to go on exchange. You can find a breakdown of living costs on the studyinaustralia website.

Getting There‌

The closest airport is Sydney and flights times from London are 24 hours. If you are destined for the Central Coast Campus then there is a free pick up service from Sydney airport. Students traveling to the Newcastle campus will need to book their own transfer or take a train to Broadmeadow station from where they can take the complimentary pick up service to their accommodation. More information about transfers can be found on the University of Newcastle's international exchange pages.

The first semester starts in February and ends in June and the second semester starts in July and ends in November. Students are expected to arrive a few days in advance of term dates. Students who wish to go for the full year would be advised to go in the second semester, followed by the first, to match the AU semester dates
