The University of Ottawa is located in the city of Ottawa - the capital of Canada and its fourth largest city. Ottawa is positioned in the east of Southern Ontario and sits on the south bank of the Ottawa River. It is a bilingual city, with around 40% of the population speaking both French and English. The University of Ottawa is the world's largest English/French bilingual university.
Ottawa is prone to snow and ice during winter, with over 200cm of annual snowfall being common. Summer is warm and humid, often with temperatures higher than 30 °C during the day.
Aberystwyth students must be averaging 70% or higher to be offered a place at uOttawa. Most courses are offered in both English and French, but students do not need to be bilingual. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their department’s exchange coordinator. There are a number of courses available that are similar to the following departments in Aberystwyth. These include:

There are a range of accommodation options available, with Marchand Residence available for International students. Exchange students are not guaranteed a room and must apply as soon as they receive their accommodation offer. However uOttawa has services available to help students find off-campus accommodation. All but one of the residences are located on campus.
Visa Information and Other Costs
Depending on the duration of the exchange, some students may not need a visa or study permit to attend University of Ottawa. However students must check if they will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to enter Canada. This currently costs $7 CAD. If you do need a study permit then according to the Canadian goverment's website 'Your eTA or visa will be issued to you at the same time as your study permit. You do not need to apply separately or to pay an additional fee.'
ALL students attending University of Ottawa MUST participate in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for the duration of their stay. Students are automatically enrolled in the these plans and do not need to complete application forms. The UHIP cost $204 per semester.
The closest international airport to University of Ottawa is Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International. Flight times from London are around 12 hours. The university doesn't offer a pick-up service but those who arrive at the start of the first semester have the chance to meet a university employee at the airport and collect a free bus ticket and instructions on how to reach campus. Alternatively a taxi will cost around $35.
How to Apply
All students wishing to go on an exchange to University of Ottawa must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department.
