Renmin University is in north east China in the capital city of Beijing. It is the first national university of People's Republic of China and it is located in north west edge of the capital which has over 20 million residents. Students are in walking distance of the beautiful Kunming Lake and they would have the ancient city of Beijing on their doorstep which has limitless entertainment and cultural activities available. International students may take part in sporting activities.


Some courses are offered in English, most are offered in Mandarin. As Renmin University is partnered with the Department of International Politics only students from this department can apply. Renmin University has a number of academic departments that are similar to those at Aberystwyth; joint honours students may be able to take courses from these departments at the discretion of their exchanges coordinator. Visa Information and Other Costs

Depending on the length of their exchange at Ningbo, students must apply for either an X-1 or X-2 visa.

ALL students attending Renmin must purchase health insurance to cover the duration of their exchange. If students have not arranged insurance prior to their departure, this can be purchased at International Cultural Communication Center after arrival.

Getting There

The most convenient airport for getting to Renmin University is Beijing International Airport. The flight time from London airports is around 10 hours. Renmin does not provide airport shuttle services but details on how to make the transfer by taxi, shuttle bus and subway can be found on their website.

International students are expected to arrive a few days in advance of term dates. 

How to Apply

All students wishing to go on an exchange to Renmin University must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department.
