Founded in 1934, Thammasat is Thailand’s second oldest university and since its creation, it has been deeply involved with the country’s politics. Thammasat has produced many Thai political leaders and would be a fascinating place to study for international politics students.
The University is located in the capital, Bangkok, which is a city full of life and entertainment. It is famous for its dynamic nightlife but there is more to the city than pubs and clubs. Once you’ve had enough of the bustling city, it’s simple to explore the country’s more cultural side with many temple and monuments in easy reach of the city.
All courses are offered in English. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their Department’s Exchange Co-Ordinator. Students are advised to discuss the suitability of UG for their degree with their Departmental Exchanges Co-Ordinator. A range of accommodation options are available for exchange students. It is however, worth noting that the Thammasat Business School does not provide accommodation for exchange students but will assist them in finding off-campus accommodation.
Visa Information and Other Costs
A Non Immigration ‘ED’ visa is required and will last for 90 days. After this period students can apply for a student visa which is a 90 day extension, this can be reapplied for to cover up to a total of 12 months.
Students will need to arrange their own insurance for the duration of their studies at Thammassat.
The closest international airport to Thammasat University is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The flight time from London airports is around 12 hours. Students can take a taxi to their accommodation.
International students are expected to arrive a few days in advance of term dates.
How to Apply
All students wishing to go on an exchange to Thammasat University must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department.
