The university itself is renowned for providing a wide range of academic programs which ranges from English literature to adventure tourism. This is also a great university for those looking to get stuck into different outdoor pursuits as ‘TRU is walking distance from commercial districts and residential areas, and next door to Kamloops’ largest recreational facility, Tournament Capital Centre. A wide variety of outdoor adventures and cultural events are minutes away, year-round.’

All courses are offered in English. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their Department’s Exchange Co-Ordinator. TRU has a number of academic departments that are similar to those at Aberystwyth. These include:

A range of accommodation options are offered including rooms on-site and off-site and also homestays for non-native English speakers. Exchange students can live in university housing although it is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so it's important that you apply early.

Visa Information and Other Costs

Depending on the duration of the exchange, some students may not need a visa or study permit to attend TRU. However students must check if they will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada. This currently costs $7 CAD. If you do need a study permit then according to the Canadian goverment's website 'Your eTA or visa will be issued to you at the same time as your study permit. You do not need to apply separately or to pay an additional fee.'

ALL students attending Thompson Rivers University MUST have medical insurance. More information on the cover provided by TRU can be found on their website.

Getting There‌‌‌

The best way to get to Kamloops is to fly first to Vancouver and then take a connecting flight to Kamloops. Direct flights are available to Vancouver from Heathrow and take around 9h30 and the connecting flight to Kamloops is around 45 minutes. Students must find their own way to TRU campus.

How to Apply

All students wishing to go on an exchange to Thompson Rivers University must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department.
