UNSW is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Australia. The city centre is easily accessible from the university and has good public transport links. As a city to be a student, Sydney offers an incredible balance of weekends at the beach and great nights out. Although a cosmopolitan city, chunks of the harbour are still edged with bush and it is not uncommon to see flying foxes and possums around the city. With the Opera House and firework displays, Sydney is full of culture and entertainment. A fantastic place to study!
All courses are offered in English. Students from any academic department are eligible to apply at the discretion of their department’s exchange coordinator. There are a number of courses available that are similar to the following departments in Aberystwyth. These include:
- Art History
- Business Management
- Computer Science
- Fine Art
- Education and Childhood Studies
- Media and Communication Studies
- Software Engineering
- Mathematics and Statistics
There are range of accommodation options available to Aberystwyth students at UNSW and the campus prides itself on being a safe and secure place to live. Though places are available, there is a limited number so students must make sure that they submit their applications as soon as possible.
Visa Information and Other Costs
All international and exchange students must apply for a student visa (subclass 500). The cost of the visa may change year on year.
A condition of the visa is that students will have appropriate Health Insurance. This will need to cover all dates between arrival and departure in/from Australia. UNSW requires that students arrange their own cover, and provide several options to consider.
It is also important to consider the cost of living when choosing where to go on exchange. You can find a breakdown of living costs on the studyinaustralia website.
The closest international airport to UNSW is Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. There are several options for getting from the airport to campus; a taxi, train or through the airport pick-up service. Make sure to plan your arrival with the following guide.
How to Apply
All students wishing to go on an exchange to UNSW must apply through Aberystwyth University as they must first be nominated by the international office and students usually go in the second semester of their second year unless they have special permission from their department. The deadline for application for semester 1 (Feb-Jun) is 15th October and for semester 2 (Jul-Nov) applications must be in by 1st April. All applications are made online.
